We have designed and built many projects in East London over the years including The Fisheries in Hackney.  We create ambitious designs that reflect the surroundings focused on how people use spaces and flow through a building. Working closely with our clients, our team of architects and interior designers realise your brief and aspirations to create a successful and memorable guest experience.

Design begins with feeling – for place, for the past, for the needs and wants of the now, and for a future that matters. It listens. It empathises. It’s pragmatic. It’s an understanding that informs everything we do. It makes buildings that work – truly, beautifully. This is how we approach all architecture and design projects.

An architecture and design practice is nothing without its people, and the very best practices are those in which everyone has a voice – however different it may be. We are extremely fortunate Hollaway is exactly this: an extraordinary bunch of thinkers, talkers, and doers. These are the people that get buildings made.

Some buildings have no place being where they are. The Fisheries in East London is not that building. On the contrary, having lived and worked in Hackney for decades, having made his living in the food and beverage industry, and being a massive advocate of WeWork culture, it was the client that drove a design consisting of two halves – architecturally as well as in terms of bringing residential and work spaces under the same roof. It was his idea to shroud much of the building in a net.

Hollaway’s approach to architecture and design always starts with people and place. How does a building contribute to the community it will inhabit? How will people interact and engage with the architecture created in this space?  Under his leadership and hands on approach Guy Hollaway has created a design-led Practice committed to innovative building solutions, with work ranging from prestigious one off commissions to large scale regeneration projects.

East Bank powerhouse for innovation, creativity and learning

A new powerhouse for learning, creativity, and innovation, we present to you East Bank! Situated in the famous Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this part of London represents a unique collaboration between culture, arts, and world-leading universities. It is designed to present a diverse and exciting range of opportunities for anyone who works, lives, and visits East London. Below, we are going to reveal everything that you need to know about this project that is being undertaken by architects in East London.

An ambitious project: Discover more about East Bank

The Mayor of London has supported the East Bank project, which is partly funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The name of the project – East Bank – recognises the sheer ambition of this project. It has been designed to complement the major education and cultural centres across London, such as the Knowledge Quarter around Bloomsbury and King’s Cross, the cluster of academic institutions in South Kensington, and South Bank.

So, what can you expect from East Bank?

Work is currently underway across the Park to create East Bank, but what can you expect from this area? The government views East Bank as being critical to the long-term legacy of London, creating a powerhouse for artistic exhibitions, performance, research, learning and excellence. It represents a unique prospect for the UK’s capital city, and it is a concept that is virtually unparalleled when it comes to the global stage.

Some of the different things that you can expect to be built here are as follows:

  • UCL East – This is a new campus that is being created by UCL, which will provide multi-disciplinary innovation, teaching, and research in areas that are as diverse as conservation, culture, smart cities, and robotics, for approximately 4,000 students.
  • BBC Music Studios – State-of-the-art BBC Music Studios are going to be construction. This will provide a hub whereby music from all genres will be celebrated. You can expect BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Symphony Orchestra to call this hub their home, as well as BBC singers. There will be pop and rock recording facilities, as well as the possibility of public performances too.
  • V&A sites – There are going to be two sites whereby V&A will showcase their world-famous collections. This includes a new Collection and Research Centre, which will revolutionise access to the vast collection of performance, design, and art from the museum. The second site is going to be a new museum, which enables you to explore the famous collection. This includes spaces for community-led projects, gallery displays, and pioneering engineering.
  • London College of Fashion sites – There are going to be six sites integrated onto one state-of-the-art campus for UAL’s London College of Fashion. These sites are going to accommodate approximately 6,500 students/ They will gain access to archives, libraries, galleries, public open spaces, a business incubation and social enterprise centre, and a world-leading research community.
  • Sadler’s Wells theatre – The excitement keeps coming, as there is also going to be a brand new 550-seat theatre opened by Sadler’s Wells. This is designed to provide a place for some of the best global and UK dance work to be presented. The company is also going to establish a brand new hip hop academy and centre for choreographic practice. These two locations are going to be the first of their kind within the United Kingdom, and so there is certainly a lot to get excited about when it comes to the different buildings coming to the East Bank area.

The predictions for East Bank in terms of the economy

World-renowned universities UAL’s London College of Fashion and University College London have joined the global cultural brands of V&A, Sadler’s Wells, and the BBC to generate this amazing centre for ambition and innovation. We can expect to see an unprecedented number of new job opportunities created in the area for the digital age. We can expect more than 2,500 jobs to be created here, as well as over 1.5 million visitors being brought to the Park and the nearby areas per annum. It is, therefore, believed that around £1.5 billion will be generated for the local economy.

So there you have it: everything that you need to know about East Bank. Stratford is a part of London that has undergone extensive improvements in recent times, sparked off by London winning the 2012 Olympic Bid. The area has not looked back since, and this has resulted in the creation of the exciting East Bank community.
