We are delighted to announce that Hollaway Studio has secured planning permission for the transformation of Foxbridge Golf Course into a luxury, all-inclusive spa resort. Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee approved the proposals this week with a 5–4 majority, following four years of planning and consultation.

The proposal for this unique site has been shaped through a sensitive design process. Situated within the tranquil South Downs in West Sussex, the site will reimagine the former nine-hole golf course, which closed in 2019, as a destination for wellness and leisure.

The development will comprise 121 lodge units, a 50-bed spa hotel, the conversion of the former clubhouse into a restaurant and farm shop, the creation of a new access road from Foxbridge Lane, new cycle routes and internal roads, tennis courts, and new hard and soft landscaping, including the formation of four new ponds. The project is designed to serve visitors from the local West Sussex area as well as those from further afield.

The site has been carefully organised to minimise the impact of the development on the broader landscape, with all units generally below the height of the dense trees that surround the 60-acre site. Future guests at Foxbridge will be able to choose from a range of stone and timber-panelled lodges designed in harmony with the local West Sussex vernacular, alongside a collection of Urban Blossom Poppy units, with curved timber structures designed to merge with the surrounding trees. Carefully positioned in response to the site’s topography, the units are oriented to frame expansive views across four newly formed ponds, which follow the natural contours of the former course’s greens.

By embracing adaptive reuse, the Foxbridge project highlights the opportunity to repurpose former golf courses and other leisure centres.
